I created Afruniverse so that no creative in Africa would ever have to feel the sting of being ghosted or shortchanged again. After 25 years across television, fashion, publishing, Nollywood, and employment consulting — I decided to build the foundation itself.

Kingsley Obi Lekan is the founder of Afruniverse and a quarter-century builder across African media, fashion, publishing, Nollywood, and employment consulting. His journey began in the late 1990s in television and visual storytelling, long before “creator economy” became a phrase investors understood.

In 2001 he launched vogueinafrica.com — one of Africa’s earliest digital attempts to celebrate fashion, culture, and creative identity online. That early experiment taught him what the continent still struggles with today: brilliant talent, broken trust, and no durable infrastructure for delivery or payment.

Through Capt Kingsley Consulting Limited, he spent years placing creatives, advising employers, and documenting the human cost of unstructured hiring. Those lessons became the blueprint for Afruniverse: a managed marketplace where accountability, escrow, and professional delivery are not optional extras — they are the product.
